Estimated Date: 793 – 722 B.C.

Synopsis: After much longsuffering, God finally decided to make an end of the northern tribes. After successive turbulent reigns among the kings of Israel, God brought up Assyria to punish them. Their land was made desolate and the population was resettled in other lands. The curse of the covenant in Deuteronomy 28:64 had come to pass.

Questions for Discussion & Study

  1. What success did Jeroboam II have? Why?

  2. From a history book or other reference material, make a list of the kings of Assyria from 800 – 700 BC. Also be prepared to identify Assyria on a map and tell about the people.

  3. Why was Shalmaneser angry with Hoshea? What happened as a result?

  4. Outline the reasons (from 2 Kings 17:7-

    • 23) for Israel’s punishment.

  5. What nations did Assyria resettle into Samaria? Why were they taught the law? Read John 4 before class.
