I. the Great Commission was to make disciples by teaching them what Jesus taught the apostles.

II. Luke writes to Theophilus telling him what Jesus did and taught (Luke) and how the Believers taught and followed the teaching of Jesus (Acts)

III. in Acts 2, the Holy Spirit comes upon the apostles and Peter preaches that Jesus is the promised king, resurrected from the dead, ascended to the father, and offers forgiveness through his sacrifice to those who want to be disciples. this is the link between the Great Commission and the day of Pentecost.

They were devoted to the apostles teaching. devoted is used as a statement of emphasis. it was their state of existence. some versions say they continued steadfastly. theirs was not a Sunday only Faith but a deep commitment. they were committed to the apostles teaching, they shared Jesus teaching, and they were an example so that others could see how the teaching is lived. they regularly consume spiritual food. it provided them strength especially in times of trial. without physical food we are tired and weak, the same is true of spiritual food.
