II. Unlikely rescuers

  1. In the wake of the 2011 tornado outbreak, there were several stories of people whose property was damaged or destroyed reaching out to rescue others. Even rescuers whose houses were destroyed were responding to those who are in critical condition. Spiritually, we have been saved from the punishment coming upon mankind for sin through Jesus but we need to reach out to those who are lost and show them the way to safety.

III. The Ephesian Christians relationship to the world, Ephesians 5:1-14

  1. 1-7: By imitating Christ they were to abstain from immorality
  2. 1 Peter 4:1-6 – do not join their immorality though they think you are strange
  3. 1 Peter 4:14-16 – do not suffer as evildoers
  4. We cannot be arrogant about our holiness; it is by grace of God we are His children
  5. Luke 18:9-14 – Arrogant despising others
  6. Luke 7:36-39 – Looking down on the unrighteous seeking others
  7. Ephesians 2:1-10 – By God’s grace we are saved

A. 8: they were once part of the immoral world

B. Colossians 3:5-10 – The Colossians once walked in immorality

C. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

D. We might not have been as bad as we could be but any sin is vile to God

E. 9-14: they had an obligation to teach the immoral about Christ

F. 1 Peter 2:11-12 – Be a good example

G. Philippians 2:14-15 – shine as lights in the dark world

H. Acts 2:40-41 – Call to be saved from the wicked generation

I. The gospel call is into the whole world—calling all people to God

J. Think of the Corinthians who were part of the immoral world

K. Many had led very immoral lives but repented and served God.

L. Would we try to teach a homosexual, an adulterer, a materialistic person, a thief?

M. Leave the world; teach the world – we who are rescued must save others
