Titus 2:11-14

I. The time for salvation has come

A. God’s grace is open to all men

B. Not limited to a few fortunate souls but open to everyone The Great Commission: Go into all the world and teach every creature

C. Called by the gospel

D. Titus 1:2-32 Thessalonians 2:13-14

E. Can boldly approach God, Hebrews 10:19-22

F. Never take that blessing for granted Open access can cause us to forget what a privilege it is to approach God at any time

G. God’s grace is manifested in Jesus Christ, 3:4-8

H. We do not earn nor deserve God’s grace for salvation When we sin we rebel against God’s law and order and deserve death

I. Yet, by God’s mercy we can be saved

J. By the washing of regeneration, the baptism of the new birth, and the regeneration of the Spirit John 3:5 “Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” Romans 6:3-4 – Baptized into a new life

K. God’s grace is a teacher

L. Romans 1:16-18 – Teaches us about righteousness and unrighteousness Holds up Jesus as our example of holiness and perfection

M. John 14:8-11 – Glory of Jesus

N. Reflected the glory of the Father Is sufficient for our knowledge

II. Things we must put off

A. Ungodliness – General term for all things that oppose God and holiness

B. Ignores God, Romans 1:20-23 Worships Man, Romans 1:24-27 Hates God, Romans 1:28-32 Ignores the truth according to godliness, Titus 1:1

C. Worldly lusts – Another general term, associated with the base things of the world

D. 1 John 2:15-17 – Do not fall in love with the world.

E. Things are not of the Father; do not please Him Devil took the good that God created and corrupted it. Galatians 5:19-21 – Works of the flesh

III. Things we must do

A. Live soberly

B. Recognize the eternal consequences of our actions1 Thessalonians 5:6-8 – Sober in our behavior1 Peter 5:8 – Be on guard for temptation (appeal of lusts) Has self-control; lives properly within himself

C. Live righteously

D. His life is characterized by justice and fairness with others He is a good example in his conduct He lives properly before others

E. Live godly

F. His life is directed towards pleasing God and being with Him in heaven James 4:7-8 – Draw near to God He lives properly before God

G. Live hopefully

H. Titus 2:13 Titus 3:7 Romans 8:23-25 – We hope for resurrection and our eternal home Hebrews 10:23-24 – Let us hold onto our hope without wavering It is a life lived in the hope of what we can be on earth and eternally

I. Live actively

J. Titus 2:14 – Purified in order to do good works Titus 3:8 – Be careful to maintain good works Ephesians 2:10 – We were created to be workers We cannot be lazy or expect others to do the work

IV. Cannot be wishy-washy but must be fully committed to seeking God and perfecting His will in our lives
